Painting Concorde

With Air Salvage International working on the main rebuild, the core volunteer effort over the summer of 2005 was to repaint the main wings and aircraft fuselage whilst it was inside the tent. The original paint had decayed to such an extent that corrosion treatment was required on many areas of the aircraft to provided a sound area for the new finish.

The Concorde specification paint was kindly supplied by PPG Aerospace

Getting the process underway with the aircraft's belly
The belly fulled sanded down ready for treating and primer
Priming the belly around the landing gear bays
Next onto the fuselage
The paint was in a bad condition around all the rivet heads
Alocrome is applied to the bare metal with the help of industrial wipe
Primer is applied to the fuselage
The team next moved onto the forward fuselage section.
Forward fuselage 75% primed
The sanding was never ending..wings were next
A wing completly prepared ahead of being primed
Another small team worked on the tail fin
