Painting Concorde
PAGE 2

With Air Salvage International working on the main rebuild, the core volunteer effort over the summer of 2005 was to repaint the main wings and aircraft fuselage whilst it was inside the tent. The original paint had decayed to such an extent that corrosion treatment was required on many areas of the aircraft to provided a sound area for the new finish.

The Concorde specification paint was kindly supplied by PPG Aerospace

The Port wing gets its first coat of primer
Now the sexy white Concorde Paint!
1st coat complete on the port side
1st coat on the starboard wing
Another look down the port side, with the wing still to be painted
The underbelly painted with the restored belly panels re-installed
Painting the forward areas of the aircraft's belly
Cargo hold door now back in place
Starting the port wing
Many hands make light work. Each wing took 8 man hours per coat
The port side after 2 coats on paint, 3 coats were applied to the fuselage.
Looking from above the scale of the task achieved can be seen
