Concorde
Through the Decades
At
the end of the short video visitors are invited to move though
a small exhibit area that contains Concorde seats and memorabilia
from Concorde’s life
The
walls, hat racks and forward bulkheads here are the only remaining
parts of G-BBDG's original interior.
As
you walk into this small area you pass through two leather bulkheads;
these are known as the VIP bulkheads and would be fitted in
Concorde forward cabin to create a VVIP cabin within the cabin
on such occasions
when Concorde carried royalty.
The
following seats are displayed:
- 1970s
seats : A pair of seats that were actually fitted to
the Brooklands Concorde are displayed here. These were last
flown on
the BAC1-11 on display at Brooklands. These
are also reminiscent of the Concorde seats used by British
Airways on board Concorde
from 1976-1985 .
- 1980s
seats : A pair of grey leather seats flown from 1985-1992.
- 1990s
seats : These are the seats that are also fitting
in the forward cabin of our Concorde, British airways fitted
these
to Concorde
from 1992-2001.
- Final
Concorde seats – A pair of the cradle
action Conran seats manufactured by Facotry
design for Concorde
refit in 2001.
Also display is a table setting
complete with never flown metal cutlery, which
was withdrawn after the event of
Sept 11th 2001.
Two
other items of note in this small display area are the flight
test equipment racks that
were situated
in
G-BBDG’s
aft hold during the flight test programme, today this
equipment would
be
replaced by a simple laptop PC.
